Today's quick tip is one you may have heard of before: "Show, don't tell." Beginning writers often don't understand exactly what that means. Here's an example:
TELLING:
Jane got mad, then left.
SHOWING:
Jane clenched her teeth, balled her fists tight, then stomped out the door and slammed it closed.
Clearly one is stronger, and will cause readers to visualize your story instead of simply reading it. Try this in your own stories and revisions to instantly improve your craft. Happy writing!
